Like with similar degrees at this level in different subject areas, colleges have either the PhD or M.Phil degrees available. These are highly intensive and demanding courses where there are both regular classes and laboratory time. Candidates with doctorate degrees become eligible for teaching positions at universities or for research and development at public and private organizations.

Eligibility Criteria

With the different types of agriculture degrees discussed, let us learn what the eligibility criteria for each degree are. It is important to keep in mind here that, these criteria will differ from college to college. The criteria stated below are general criteria that can be taken for reference.

Certification and diplomas: Certificate and diploma agriculture colleges mostly have pretty relaxed eligibility rules. All one needs to have completed their schooling till class 10th or 12th, for certificates and diplomas respectively. The minimum aggregate score to possess these degrees is 50% in class 12th. Here, there will be a relaxation in marks for applicants from reserved categories.

The most important requirement for this level is to have a research proposal where the applicants will submit what their research topic is and how they will do it. After a written test score colleges will hold personal interviews as a part of the admission process.

Admissions Process

Most of the best private university in Bhopal and India hold both merit-based and admission test-based admission processes. Undergraduate degrees of shorter duration and thus have merit-based admissions. Written tests of national and state levels like CUCET are generally a requirement. Certain universities and colleges hold their own examinations for admissions. Personal interviews also occur before the counselling session for bachelor’s and master’s degrees. As mentioned, the doctorate degree applicants are also required to submit a written research proposal as well.

Skills Agriculture Students Must Have

Before applying and going through the application and admission process, students must ensure they have certain skills. These include both technical and soft skills. While technical skills will be reflected in the student profile, soft skills will be the first thing professors and the interviewer will notice. To ensure applicants go through the application process smoothly, they should ensure they have the following soft skills.

  • Interpersonal skills, ability to communicate as per the situation and person
  • Analytical abilities to come up with the best solutions for problems

Agriculture degrees are a more niche choice at colleges that have Science degrees. They are a blessing for countries whose economies are more agriculture-dependent. Luckily, the criteria to become eligible for these courses are not tough and for some courses, an admission test score is required. What is important is to stand out from the competition so that applicants get their seats at their chosen college.
